Mengwi
was one of the main kingdoms of the island, and the temple was built as its territorial
tempe. The Pura Taman Ayun is a watre garden temple, therefore
symbolizing
the cosmic union of the sea and mountain. |

Tanah lot is carved out of the landscaped tides, wind and rain, the huge off shore
sentinel rock of Tanah Lot supports a small picturesque sea temple which
can be
reached by a scramble over wet rocks. There are refuted to be several
large caves
just below the water line at the base of the rock which shelter
large sea-snakes,
the guardians of the temple. |
